Ryuugamine Mikado is a boy who longs for an exciting life of the big city. Ryuugamine Mikado transfers to a school in Ikebukuro from the invitation of his childhood friend, Kida Masaomi. Masaomi warns Mikado about people he should not make enemies out of : a champion fighter, an information broker, a gang called "Dollars". Coincidentally, Mikado witnesses the Headless Rider, an urban legend on his first day in Ikebukuro. From then on, strange cases have been happening and the three friends, Sonohara Anri, Ryuugamine Mikado and Kida Masaomi have gotten themselves involved with the Yellow Scarves, Dollars, the Headless Rider, katana called "Saika" and so on.
